Privacy Policy

coolmac.tools ("we", "us") makes small, native Mac apps — currently Beacon and Reclaim. This policy explains what we do and don't collect. The short version: our apps run on your Mac, and your files, messages, and searches stay there.

Our apps are local-first. They do not upload your files, messages, search index, or scan results to us. We can't see them.

What the apps do on your Mac

Beacon AI mode (bring-your-own-key)

Beacon's optional AI mode is bring-your-own-key. You supply your own API key for a provider you choose (OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google). That key is stored locally on your Mac. When you run an AI search, your query and the matching snippets are sent directly from your Mac to the provider you selected, under that provider's own terms and privacy policy. coolmac.tools never receives your API key, your query, or your content, and is not an intermediary in those requests. AI mode is off by default and gated behind an explicit disclosure.
